Why Choose LogHomesHandcrafted?

  We are cost-conscious

Offering small log homes was an idea created out of the need for housing that doesn't cost a fortune. Think you can't afford a hand crafted log home? Having designed and built log homes for thirty years, Ron Hummel, owner of LogHomesHandcrafted has achieved what some consider an artisan level of building. We are experts at building beautiful log homes to fit any budget.

We are a green log home company

LogHomesHandcrafted uses dead standing trees in forests ravaged by the Pine Bark Beetle. Beetle killed trees are becoming more abundant in areas affected by global warming because the beetle now spreads across the country to previously frozen areas in winter. The result? Usable whole logs, often too small for larger sized log homes. These dead standing trees provide perfect tinder for forest fires. When removed, remaining live trees and homes nearby have a stronger chance of surviving devastating fires. By taking out these trees from the forest and not cutting down living trees, the forests are significantly healthier. Did you ever think you could have a log home that didn't kill a single living tree to build? We have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our hand crafted log homes are built from whole logs. We cut, hand peel and notch trees to fit together tightly. Each home has the character of the unique whole logs. Our master crafters have honed this art with decades of experience.

Log home kits are made a very different way. All sized and types of trees are machine cut and peeled into uniform pieces. These pieces are then glued or screwed together to simulate a whole log, then machine notched. A uniform look is produced and unique character of logs is not desired.
With a log home kit, normally a contractor is hired to do the work. The milled log company supplies the log shell materials only, and the pieces are not necessarily numbered or marked. Contractors typically spend two to three months assembling a log home kit.

With hand crafted log homes, the logs are custom cut to fit snuggly with notches at the corners. We assemble the home log outside to be sure all of the logs fit together well. The logs are then numbered and dissasembled, trucked to the site and reassembled. We are availible to reassemble the home and take a few days to do so.
No, that's the beauty of it. When a living tree is burrowed into by the bark beetle it blocks nutrients to the the tree, killing the tree but leaving the strength of the log intact. Structurally, a log home which is cared for by properly is stronger than most "stick built" houses which use today's standard building practices.
Yes, we can follow any floor plan that you desire.
One of our hand crafted log homes typically has an R-value of 18. Standard stick built homes are typically R12.
When your log home arrives you can hire us to set it up or you can hire your own contractor. If you choose the latter, make sure your contractor is licensed and experienced with log construction. You can also set it up yourself if you feel confident. For either large or small log home projects it takes only a day or two for us to set up your log shell. Then your contractor does the inside finish work, cabinets, plumbing and whatever interior choices you have selected and you are ready to move in. You should already have your foundation laid before your log package arrives.
